PNG is a ready-made image at the pixel size you choose (256 to 2048 px). It is the fast option for social posts, slides, emails and documents. SVG is vector: it is drawn from shapes, not pixels, so it stays razor-sharp at any size — from a business card to a shop window to a billboard. If the code will be printed, especially large, choose SVG. Both encode exactly the same data, so a scanner reads them identically.
QR codes carry spare data so they still scan when part of the pattern is smudged, torn or covered. That is the error-correction level. Higher levels survive more damage but pack the pattern denser:

Keep strong contrast — a dark foreground on a light background. Avoid inverting to light-on-dark; many scanners struggle with it. Leave the quiet zone (the empty margin around the code) intact — this tool adds it for you, so do not crop it out. Print at a sensible size: as a rule of thumb, a code should be at least 2 cm square for close scanning and larger for distance. And shorter data makes a simpler, more forgiving pattern, so trim long URLs where you can.
